Charles Edwin Long

   ARP — Visitation for Charles Edwin Long, 43, of Arp was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home, Overton.

   Mr. Long died Friday, June 18, 2010 in a Tyler hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1967 in Alexander, La., to Charles Ray and Edwina Jeannette Perkins Long. He moved to the Arp / Overton area in 1982 from College Station. He graduated Overton High School and married Darcie Laverne Philips on June 18, 1993 in Liberty City. He attended Kilgore College and received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Stephen F. Austin State University and worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a parole officer.

   Charles was a friend to all and he had an entrepreneur spirit. He loved spending time with his boys and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and also loved plants and landscaping.

   He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Matthew Carroll Camp, on Sept. 24, 2009; and a nephew, Andrew Hope Camp, on May 14, 2001.

   Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Darcie Long, Arp; three sons, C. J. Long, Joseph Ray Long and Garret Owen Long, all of Arp; his parents, Charles Ray and Edwina Jeaneatte Long, Overton; his maternal grandparents, Ottis and Margie Perkins, Port Arthur; a sister, Diedra Denise Camp, Gilmer; a nephew, Matthew Cade Camp.
